9 March - 22 March
From the 8th of March until the 17th of March, Cathy was in Zambia for work, and since Trigga has long days at work, I was in charge of the kids for the week. This week, it was my job to wake them up, make sure they had breakfast and got ready and take them to school. On Monday I was invited to come climbing with the other teaching assistant, Pete. We spent most of the afternoon at the climbing hall and afterwards we made plans to have dinner together with Mirjam and some others at his house. On Wednesday, Tigran (the eldest child) had his assembly at school. Because neither of the parents could be there, I was asked to go and film it for them. This was my first experience seeing an English school assembly and I really enjoyed it!
This week, I also decided to expand my social contacts a bit more and I got in contact with a lady who was looking for someone to ride her horse once or twice a week. It clicked really well between us and the horse was a good fit for me, so we decided on a weekly arrangement.
That weekend a friend from back home came over to see me. She flew into Stansted at around 20:00, so I ventured into central London to meet her there. We took a walk around the London Eye / Big Ben area before getting a train to Thames Ditton. On Sunday I took her to see Wisley gardens, that evening we went to a restaurant with Mirjam, Pete and Pete's girlfriend. On Monday I had to go to the school in the morning, in the afternoon I met up with my friend in London to have a look around. When we got back I picked up the boys from school and made them dinner. The next day, my friend had to go home again.
Due to the corona virus crisis, Mirjam was forced to get a plane home on Wednesday.. I helped her pack her bags and hugged her goodbye.. Unfortunately the corona crisis got too bad for the schools to remain open, so from that Friday on the schools had to shut their doors. This meant that I had nothing to do in Thames Ditton. The family and I agreed that I would spend some time at my girlfriend's house until the schools would reopen. That Thursday, I drove down to Bognor Regis and I plan to be here for a while.
Hopefully the corona crisis will be resolved soon.
Despite the crisis, I am thoroughly enjoying every moment that I get to spend here in England and I look forward to loads more interesting experiences here!
